Needle-punched nonwovens designed for client’s filter requirements
With Filtura® Edge we offer versatile nonwovens for side bands which enhance the overall functionality and performance of the filter. As frames our solutions provide a high level of structural support to air and automotive filtration applications. Filtura® Edge nonwovens are available as rigid or flexible edge bands; they can be supplied in rolls or cut into the shapes and dimensions required. Weights range from 200 g/m2 to 600g/m2.

For over 50 years, our client has been a leading UK-based manufacturer and distributor of high-quality air filters.
Their extensive range of products covers an array of filter classes for diverse filtration needs. From ISO Coarse filters to cutting-edge high-efficiency filtration options, the product portfolio includes an assortment of panel, slimline, and bag filters, along with innovative mini-pleat compact and molecular filters.
The Challenge
The filter manufacturer planned to develop fully recyclable HVAC filters. However, to enable efficient recycling, this required the use of side bands made from the same raw material as the filter media. The company therefore sought an alternative to cardboard, metal, and plastic frames for their polyester filter layers. It was vital that the chosen material offered comparable rigidity to the frames used in traditional configurations.
The solution
Made from 100% polyester, Filtura Edge delivered exactly what the manufacturer needed. The calendared, thermobonded, needlepunched nonwovens proved to be perfectly compatible with the client’s HVAC filter media. The nonwovens also met the company’s other specific requirements. After the initial discussions between the client’s Purchasing Manager and our Technical Sales team regarding the new product development, the first shipment of Filtura Edge was delivered just a few weeks later.
